Games Ideas – Martial Arts and Crafts

I agree that the title is a bit dorky, but I really can’t think of anything else to call it and honestly, “Gymcraft” wouldn’t really describe the idea in its entirety, so here goes. Two sub-genres I’ve been liking a LOT lately have been Metroidvanias and roguelikes. Of course, we already have an excellent combination of both worlds: Rogue Legacy.

God Hand

General Overview

It’s like Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) as told by Clover Studios, creators of Viewtiful Joe and Okami, except wackier. It’s hilarious, over the top, fun as hell, and goddamn challenging after a while. True, this game may not be for everyone, but those it DOES appeal to will keep with the lols for some time.

Brawler of the Year – 1998

This was an incredibly slow year for brawlers. Unless my info’s wrong (and you can blame Wiki for that if it is), there were literally only 3 brawlers this year. Worse still, I had no prior knowledge of these titles going into this and, well…they’re not that great.

Emulation Arcade – Avengers

Avengers is a fun, straightforward action brawler that involves you advancing toward a seemingly endless barrage of enemies, punching and kicking your way to justice. Yes, this sounds like Final Fight, but there are a number of twists. Firstly, it’s overhead and has a look and feel similar to that of Commando, but with you going through ghettos and all kinds of weird areas instead of the desert.
