The Tales Series

I was first introduced to the Tales series via Tales of Destiny for the PS1. Much like with the Star Ocean series, I never quite understood why we missed the original, but the series in general has always fascinated me. The best way to think about the Tales series is as though it’s Namco’s version of Final Fantasy…except that there’s quite a bit different and far more interesting about it.

For starters, ever since its inception, the Tales games have NOT been turned based. Far from it as combat is full action with only minor delays in certain attacks which allows for combos and all kinds of special techniques to be cast at a moment’s notice. Effectively the series started as an action RPG that allows for side view combat and is very, very fun.

Sadly, there are still a bunch of Tales games that have never surfaced in America…and some that are really terrible that have. All the same, let’s hit all of them, in order, just like I did with the Megami Tensei series.

The Great Steam Roundup – Episode 8

Ayup, another random collection of stuff. For this roundup we have a wannabe that actually works quite well, a puzzle game that references new gen puzzles, two unfortunate titles, and two kickass titles that I’m truly surprised I didn’t mention as early as the original Steam Roundup. Could’ve been that I wanted to give them full page reviews, but ehh. Let’s go!

The Great Steam Roundup – Episode 2

Yup, I decided to do another. This time I decided to throw in only games that I would recommend, but I’m thinking if I do another that I might have to throw in games that I seriously would not recommend to anybody ever. All the same, let’s think positive!

Chantelise – A Tale of Two Sisters

General Overview

Much like when Nippon Ichi released Disgaea THEN La Pucelle in America, despite them coming out in reverse in Japan, Chantelise was released AFTER Recettear in America…and sadly doesn’t quite live up to the fun, strange, engrossing quirkiness of such. Even if you really, really loved Recettear, I simply cannot recommend this title.

Brawler of the Year – 1993

This year we start seeing many more console titles. They’re not always that great, but they’re there all the same! Actually, this year was tied up for a while, but it eventually became clear who the true winner was.

Brawler of the Year – 1992

There were a lot of great games this year, even on the consoles. However, I only had to take one look and immediately I knew which one deserved the #1 spot.

Strider vs. Strider vs. Strider

When most people think Strider Hiryu, they think Marvel vs. Capcom, but they don’t often know what Strider is besides just “that one ninja looking guy.” Fortunately, I’m here to provide you my robust, yet still limited knowledge. What I will say is, regardless of whether or not Wiki can corroborate what I’m saying, is that effectively Strider is a futuristic space ninja complete with all kinds of cool gymnastic flippy jumps, an awesome sword, robot familiars, and has the ability to basically scale any surface.
