Arc the Lad Forever

By 2002, I was used to looking to Working Designs for incredible boxsets of games (usually remakes) that contained incredible stories, great graphics, great music…yeah, the whole nine yards. So when Arc the Lad Collection came out…well, I knew I wanted it, but wasn’t so sure about the price ($70 brand new). Now sure, I’m glad I got them, but sadly Arc the Lad is more or less dead these days.

The Tales Series

I was first introduced to the Tales series via Tales of Destiny for the PS1. Much like with the Star Ocean series, I never quite understood why we missed the original, but the series in general has always fascinated me. The best way to think about the Tales series is as though it’s Namco’s version of Final Fantasy…except that there’s quite a bit different and far more interesting about it.

For starters, ever since its inception, the Tales games have NOT been turned based. Far from it as combat is full action with only minor delays in certain attacks which allows for combos and all kinds of special techniques to be cast at a moment’s notice. Effectively the series started as an action RPG that allows for side view combat and is very, very fun.

Sadly, there are still a bunch of Tales games that have never surfaced in America…and some that are really terrible that have. All the same, let’s hit all of them, in order, just like I did with the Megami Tensei series.

The Great Steam Roundup – Episode 10

This time I’ve decided to go with as many packages as possible. No, it’s not because I’m trying to knock out every single game I have as quickly as possible. Mostly it’s just that for a lot of these I didn’t realize they were within packages and you typically get better deals with said packages, so there you go. All in all, pretty decent games this time around, so let’s get started!

Backloggiversary! What The Hell Is That?

3 years ago today, I came upon a site called Backloggery. It’s a site where you can post games you’re playing, that you’ve beaten, that you own, and so on. It’s meant as a place to help motivate you into finishing everything you have as well as brag about your own personal accolades. You can even put in comments, ratings for games, make note your achievement points, and so on.

In celebration of this, I’m going to kind of pimp out what I’ve been playing in order of most frequently updated to least. And don’t forget, as I usually do, there are youtube links embedded in the pics. Enjoy!

RPG of the Year – 2009

It’s entirely possible that I missed some games, but I’ll say this…this list took me a good 4 hours to put together, therefore, if I missed anything, just let me know and I’ll fact check it just in case. I’m confident, however, in the top 5 and let me tell you, there are some FANTASTIC games this year. Some not so great ones, too, but mostly fantastic ones. There are 42 games this year, so let’s get to it!

RPG of the Year – 2003

This is a HUGE year. There are 45 games! This is also the first year we’re seeing a mobile game on the list. While you’d think this would make it hard for me to choose, just a simple glance at this list and I can already tell what’s what. Read on to find out!

Shin Megami Tensei – Devil Survivor

General Overview

It’s Shin Megami Tensei as an SRPG on a portable. If that doesn’t get you going, consider the fact that there’s an interesting time mechanic, it’s based around survival, and you can change peoples’ fates. Still not enough? How about the fact that it has excellent music, visuals, difficulty, demon auctions, and a ridiculous amount of other features that are present in other SMTs? Now if THAT isn’t enough, I honestly don’t know what is.
