Risen 2 – Dark Waters

General Overview

Is it a pirate’s life for ye? If so, ye needn’t look much further than this one. Sure, it’s got graphical glitches, the controls could be better, the voice acting is just okay, the animations are wonky at best, and the game gets borderline offensive with some stuff, but that aside it’s easily one of the best, if not THE best, pirate game ever made.

Emulation Arcade – Avengers

Avengers is a fun, straightforward action brawler that involves you advancing toward a seemingly endless barrage of enemies, punching and kicking your way to justice. Yes, this sounds like Final Fight, but there are a number of twists. Firstly, it’s overhead and has a look and feel similar to that of Commando, but with you going through ghettos and all kinds of weird areas instead of the desert.

Frankenstein Project – Fable Series

I thought I’d start a new concept I thought would be interesting. You’ll catch on as I go. This is semi-inspired by this thread “Series Where Different Games Had Attributes You Wish Were Together In One Game.” It seems like as a series goes on it either gets better, worse, or both. Fable is no exception. What I’m trying to accomplish here is discuss how each Fable handles different gameplay aspects, events, leveling up, etc. and see what the best happy medium is by combining different concepts of the existing games rather than introducing new concepts.

You Love It, I Hate It – Halo

Before every fanboy that simply sees the title and simply gets ready to rant in the comments does so, I implore you, please read this first. Halo is a much drooled over title and for (allegedly) good reason. At least I assume so because sales for this title have been no less than insane, thus rampant fanboyism. Before I begin, I’d like to tell you a little about myself and why I SHOULD have fallen in love with this game, but couldn’t. Continue reading

What I Think Happened To Britney Spears, Actually

Recently I saw a trailer for Wreck-It Ralph and it got me thinking that I know exactly what happened to Britney Spears…

Brawler of the Year – 1997

This was a slow year for brawlers (unless Wiki’s being a jerk). However, there were some interesting titles this year all the same.

Brawler of the Year – 1996

There weren’t that many brawlers this year, but trust me…if you recognize at least half the games in the runner ups list, you’ll know immediately this was a hard year to call a #1.

Return to Zork

General Overview

Chock full of brainteasers, cheap deaths, instant “get stuck” situations, lots of cheezy FMVs, whimsical dialogue, and lots of laughs, Return to Zork is a game you’ll come back to again and again, but ultimately will probably need an FAQ to truly make any real progress. It’s fun, funny, has lots of great one-liners, and will easily satisfy your oldschool need for adventure gaming.

You Love It, I Hate It – Super Meat Boy

A lot of people often look back at older NES titles and try to say that Ninja Gaiden and Ghosts n Goblins were among the toughest of the tough. While they’re not wrong, I don’t feel that there’s any part of these games that I could deem as unfair or even frustrating. Tough, sure. Requiring lots of trial and error, maybe. But really, the toughest aspect of these games is having to sit down and do them in one go rather than having savepoints or a password system.

How To Not Suck At Team Fortress 2

I’m going to assume you’re reading this for one of three possible reasons. One, you’re still new to Team Fortress 2 and you’re not really sure what you’re doing, frustrated, etc. Two, you’re not new, but you could use some pointers. Or three, you just read shit I post. Honestly, this FAQ of sorts is really more for a fourth option: those that truly, utterly suck at Team Fortress 2, but blame the fuck out of everything and everyone else rather than trying to get better.
